The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders launched an online video challenge, asking participants to submit personal stories about people who have had an impact on the people around them. The effort, called “What’s Your Story?” aims to highlight community service by Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders whose dedication to a cause has made a difference in their communities. Participants were asked to submit a video describing unique experiences that have shaped who they are in less than three minutes.

Now they have chosen eleven finalists who are being put to a vote on who will be able to share their stories in-person at a White House Champions of Change event next month. Among the finalists is none other than the founder of Kollaboration, Paul “PK” Kim.

The AAPI Initiative works to improve the quality of life and opportunities for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders by facilitating increased access to and participation in federal programs where they remain underserved. It works collaboratively with the White House Office of Public Engagement and the designated Federal agencies to increase Asian American and Pacific Islander participation in programs in education, commerce, business, health, human services, housing, environment, arts, agriculture, labor and employment, transportation, justice, veterans affairs and economic and community development.

The Initiative seeks to highlight both the tremendous unmet needs in the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities as well as the dynamic community assets that can be leveraged to meet many of those needs. The Initiative focuses on crosscutting priority areas that may reach across all issue areas and agencies, including, for example, advancing research, data collection, analysis and dissemination for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders, and ensuring access, especially linguistic access and cultural competence, for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and encouraging Asian American and Pacific Islander involvement in public service and civic engagement opportunities.

We’ve made history together in the Northwest for the past two years and Kollaboration Seattle is excited to invite you on board for an even bigger and better stage for our third annual showcase!

Below are the staff role descriptions for you to review as you consider which role you would like to apply for in the 2012 year. You may select one role as your main role of interest and a secondary role that you would like in case the first one is not available. Please be advised that all staff roles require a significant time commitment, so please consider your ability to attend monthly in-person staff meetings and participate in weekly phone calls in addition to various community events throughout the year. If you’re unable to join the core staff, we have many volunteer opportunities available and hope that you’ll consider joining as a volunteer.

Submit your applications by 11:59pm on SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 12th, 2012.

We will review your application and schedule interviews by February 18th, and have our decisions made by February 29th. The first official Kollaboration Seattle staff meeting will be Sunday, March 4th!

Basic Requirements

Before applying, please look over the list of the basic requirements. We pride ourselves in having a team that is active and responsive and passionate about our cause. An applicant must:

• Demonstrate a passion for the Asian and Pacific Islander community
• Have access to e-mail and Internet at least 5 days a week
• Commit to a one-year term
• Fulfill the time commitment listed on the individual job description (5-20 hours per week)
• Commit to selling tickets to the Kollaboration Seattle Show
• Participate in all team meetings and calls
• One community service activity a month

*Note: Certain roles will require a certain level of experience

1. What was the drive that pushed you to sing?
Our biggest motivation to sing would have to be our influence from our
parents. They got us in early to perform at singing competitions and we really
enjoy singing and performing so I guess there isn’t something driving or forcing
us to do it but we naturally enjoying doing what we do. But aside all these
things we also sing because we believe God gave us the gift to sing. Our main
goal or outcome to sing is not to get notoriety or fame but by singing somehow
demonstrate the love of God to people.

2. You’ve been invited to perform on many stages. What has been your favorite place to perform?
We have been blessed to perform on many platforms and countries but
if we had to choose one, it would have to be our performance held in our
hometown Sydney, Australia. Our friends and family were able to see us for
the first time live so this was a very special moment for us. Beside this, we had
an amazing opportunity to perform on national TV in China.

3. What inspires you the most in your music?
A lot of things inspire us, anything from ice cream to nice sunny afternoons.
But without a doubt it would have to be the message of Gods love and his
compassion for us. We also get inspired from the many emails and testimonies
from people saying how our songs have touched and given them new hope in
life.

4. Aside from singing, do you ever think of yourself doing something else?
We can’t really imagine doing anything else apart from singing and performing.
But if we weren’t singing then we would most likely be food critics. We love
watching movies so perhaps we could be film reviewers?

5. Will it be your first time visiting Seattle? What are you most excited about performing in Kollaboration Seattle 2?
Yes it will be our fist time visiting Seattle and we can’t wait to check out the
great city. We’re most excited about meeting our fans here and performing
some of our new covers and originals lined up. We don’t want to give too
much away, you’ll just have to come to the show.
